Inappropriate Use Digital Media

Tracey Hemmingsen
The most accessible example of inappropriate use of digital media I encounter is Facebook.  SO many people use it to air dirty laundry, pick on or make fun of other people, make crass remarks about those that have died in accidents, murders, etc.  They share too much information about themselves or other people and it makes me uncomfortable to know such private information that I would be embarrassed about if the roles were reversed.
I will always say these situations can be avoided if people just talk to the person you are angry with in-person and not over the internet.  I feel that people need to stop making comments that are hurtful to each other and instead put themselves in the shoes of those it directly effects.  If the comments you make would be ones you would be proud to have your child or someone you look up to read, then it is likely safe.  If you second-guess whether it is appropriate to comment in such a manner or about the topic, people need to start listening to that inner voice and DON'T DO IT!  It cannot be that important to you if it gives you pause and may damage your relationship or reputation.
