Inappropriate use of Technology

This post was updated on .
I see many instances of students using technology inappropriately. I am constantly redirecting students who are playing games during class time. There have been a few students that have been caught searching for inappropriate things on the internet and have had their internet use restricted. I know of a student that was caught having an inappropriate conversation with an elementary student. That student had their Chromebook taken away. It makes me feel frustrated I feel so helpless when much of what we do today relies on students having access to their Chromebooks. I wish we had a better SEL program set up so that we were constantly teaching digital citizenship everyday and a restorative justice program that helps students think of their actions when using digital media and the steps they can take to use it more responsibly.

As I enter into the substitute teaching role, this is one of my biggest fears, improper use of the Internet.  Plus, when students see a sub they automatically think of ways to outsmart them.  I realize that I will need to be on very vigilant when using computers.

I agree very much with this.  Poor tech use leads to social conflict, consistent needs for redirection, and distraction.  I like the idea of improving our teaching of digital citizenship and providing a restorative justice program to help students.
