Key Questions handout

Monie Hayes
I like to use the  NAMLE Key Questions to Ask When Analyzing Media Messages (https://cmes.uchicago.edu/sites/cmes.uchicago.edu/files/uploads/MediaLiteracy/NAMLE_Key%20Questions%20to%20Ask%20When%20Analyzing%20Media%20Messages%20%28Teachers%20%26%20Students%29.pdf). I typically screen it, but the page can be shared as a handout. I ask students to analyze advertisements and popular films or television series, and this source can be useful. When it comes to research writing, including the selection of sources, I share the CRAAP Test, available multiple places. I ask students to share one source they have identified and explain which CRAAP Test criterion it meets. Sometimes I have students write annotated bibliographies that include a summary of a source, application of the CRAAP Test, and mention of how the student intends to use the source.

Re: Key Questions handout

Thank you Monie for this generous gift. I will use in with my students. Great tips for any age.
I have friends in their 70's that struggle with sharing online. I try to educate them so they can understand that they can share some things with family and friends with out risking their personal identity.
They often hear a tid bit on the news and become fearful and just won't use the wonderful resources of social media and the world wide web.
