Exploring art can help enhance and develop career skills in several ways. Exploring art can develop several skills that students will need as they continue their education and then into the workforce. Skills such as creativity, confidence, problem solving, focus, and perseverance are all extremely important skills to have in the real world. Exploring and participating in art can help further those skills and help them succeed in life altogether.

The school I work at is one to one with iPads so using technology daily is a major bonus! For example, one app that I use often is called "Pages". I have used this app several times in a course I teach called "Literacy". It is an additional class all 7th graders take to get extra minutes in reading and writing. We did a unit discussing "overcoming challenges", whether it is a physical, mental, etc. disability. At the end of the unit the students created their own children's book about an object that overcomes a challenge. For example, a popsicle who melts which then the stick feels like it has no use, but finds a use in making a bird house. They used the app to write and illustrate their story. Here is a link about the app: https://www.commonsense.org/education/app/pages

Lastly, there were several takeaways from the articles and videos. In the article "Integrating the Arts with Technology: Inspiring Creativity", they discussed how self-confidence and self-esteem can be gained by expressing themselves through alternative mediums of expression. It also stated, "Research has found that students at-risk for dropping out of school who participate in arts programs gain a more positive attitude about themselves and their future..." This statement hit home because I have several students who I worry are at-risk of not completing high school. Maybe finding ways for them to express themselves through art would help them gain more confidence in themselves moving forward.
