Norms and responsibilities

G. Polzien
Children at the elementary level have a difficult time understanding why they cannot put their name or other personal information on websites, etc.  Before they are "given the keys" to something that may present a possibility for inappropriate use of their information, they first need to have an understanding of the dangers of providing personal information.

I agree, Greg.  Young students need to first know what personal information is and then try to understand why they wouldn't want to give that out freely.  Young students are little more difficult because you don't want to scare them about what could happen, yet you do need to get them to understand that there are some bad consequences that could happen if the wrong person gets their information.

Yes, Greg, you stated this very well.  Young children do not understand the dangers, and if a website tells them they have won something, they really believe!

I was thinking the same thing.  Somehow, we need to first teach these small folks about how to protect themselves (stranger danger) while online, before they are turned loose in the digital frontier.
