I could see using facebook in the classroom as a way of connecting students to information regarding service projects. Here are a couple of pages I have liked and participate in:
https://www.facebook.com/ThePeytonHeartProject/Created by Jill Kubin, the goal is to raise awareness about suicide & bullying. We would also like to help end the stigma surrounding mental health issues. The project is named after Peyton James, a 13 year old who, in the fall of 2014, died by suicide after years of being bullied.
My note: this page encourages others to place hearts (usually handmade) around public places where they can be found. Each heart has a tag attached whis has an inspirational quote and a link to more information about the project. You never know when a kind word may brighten someone else's day change a life.
https://www.facebook.com/wildliferescuenests/The home of "Wildlife Rescue Nests" for wildlife rehabilitators. Join our volunteers who help provide nests to over 220 wildlife rescues in 11 countries!
My note: Volunteers create handmade nests for injured and stranded wildlife rehabilitation. Nests are mailed to WRN, who then distributes them to organizations who rehab animals.
