Share Resource---Snowflake

Margaret Caldwell
I've enjoyed learning about resources that I can explore more fully: Cacoo, Diffen, Kahoot, Tynker, and Voki. A fun little site that I recommend highly to students and teachers is Make-a-Flake by Barkley Interactive. Being an art teacher it helps students think conceptually in the circular format---which may be helpful to future artists but certainly if interesting and fun for just about anybody. The site takes a circular virtual paper and folds it. It lets the participant cut using virtual scissor directed by the mouse. You or your kids might enjoy it---especially on a snow day!

I like seeing teachers of core subjects utilizing creative sites to tap into that part of the brain. It makes it fun and wondering how a site like this can assist the learning in Math, Science, English, etc..

Thanks for sharing this resource Margaret.  It sounds like a fun activity that can be shared with classmates. And no clean up!

This sounds like a really fun activity for my middle school students.  I know a couple years ago, that some really got into origami.   I will look into this for them. Thank you!  Kelly Kerres

It sounds like Make a Flake could be utilized in almost every classroom.  Stimulates creativity and "would be fun on a snow day!", however I was not able to find the Barkley version.  However, while searching for the Make a Flake web site I encountered "TheMakeYourOwnZone.com" a website where similar virtual activities are available. Along with websites designed where you can make your own coloring books, 3D Glasses, and online Kaleidoscopes.  Chris Josephson
