What can exploring art do for enhancing and developing career skills?
Exploring art allows you to reach a lot more students and helps students develop a deeper understanding of what is being taught through creativity and hands on learning. It has enabled me to think about my lessons differently and has helped me create lessons that will reach all learners.
Art can enhance student's cognitive abilities and help them to express themselves emotionally when they are unable to communicate their feelings. It can also help them understand how they are feeling! Art will help all students, especially students with disabilities, to be able to gain more self-confidence and self-esteem.
Allowing students to be able to explore art in the classroom allows them to integrate those skills across the curricula. This opens the exploration up to many subject areas and enables the students to be able to develop a deeper understanding of what is being taught.
What types of technologies have you used that shares a link with art? Include at least one link to a technology that could be used in the classroom.
During my student teaching, we used coding on the computers with the kids. They had a lot of fun with it and it was something that they not only enjoyed but something they could learn from. We also used robots to practice addition and subtraction. This piece of technology allowed students to develop their math skills through technology.
I attached link that I thought would be fun to use with my classroom next year! It is Google Pixel. Basically, the students use different colors to create a picture. I thought we could use this as a math or science lesson. The students could find how to make certain animals. In math, you would need to know the multiplication table to know where to put a certain color.

I really enjoyed all the video's but the video that stood out to me the most was: " Rick Lavoie: When the Chips are Down." In this video, it talked about how to change your behavior when reacting to student's behavior. As a first year teacher, behavior and classroom management were something I struggled with. This video gave me a deeper understanding of steps that I could take to better myself and how I react to kids. In the moment, you don't always think about how or what you are saying and if that is an accurate punishment or reaction. You look back at what happened and you wonder why you did or said what you said. I don't feel like I am alone in this. I feel like this video really gave me insight to what I could have done or could have handled a situation.
In another video, it talked about how students don't want to do "bad." They want to do good. They want to be accomplished. However, there are instances or situations that prevent them from being accomplished. As teachers and parents, we need to look at what students are doing well. Especially, those students whom are struggling with behavior. If a student with a behavior is doing something you asked them to do with out much struggle then we should reward that behavior. Even if that is the only thing that student was able to do that day. This reinforces that student to feel like they did accomplish something that day.
In the last video, it talked a lot about dyslexia and how so many times students were perceived as lazy or "stupid" because there was an underlying condition that was affected their learning. It talked about the different types of dyslexia and how to help students emotionally and academically through the school year. There were many interviews with kids that expressed how they felt when they were not able to read and how they felt self-conscious about reading.
