Tech Discussion Questions

Mattie Spain
What can exploring art do for enhancing and developing career skills?
Students who have access to arts in the classroom have more motivation, self-esteem, and self-confidence. Students are more likely to take risks, but they still put a lot of thought into their work. They carry that skill throughout life to be more successful in their careers.

What types of technologies have you used that shares a link with art?
In my classroom, we use flocabulary quite a bit. It teaches students content with a song or rap, then students are able to do a number of things to show their understanding, such as illustrate the vocabulary and write their own rap using the lyric lab. We have used that a few times this year, but it is difficult with my young students. I see it work very well in upper grade levels.

I also learned about a website this past summer: scratch.mit.edu   Using this website, students can code a video or interactive game. It allows students to use pre-loaded images, or find their own. I do believe students can also create their own images. This incorporates coding and arts, and allows students to show what they learned in a content area as their presentation of information. (Really cool website.)

What are your "takeaways" from the article and videos?
What I mostly took away from the video was that integrating arts allows for students with disabilities to thrive in educational settings. The teachers have the ability to really individualize instruction to meet student needs, so students with disabilities can become more confident in the work they are producing as they use are as a tool to do so.
