1. What can exploring art do for enhancing and developing career skills?
Art helps us practice open mindedness in that we have the opportunity to see others' points of view. Observing and appreciating the art of others helps us notice connections. In a way we translate and interpret the artist’s thinking. Creating art gives us a medium to express our thoughts and feelings as well. Visuals can enhance and help clarify a spoken or written message in both directions, as the creator and interpreter.
2. What types of technologies have you used that shares a link with art? Include at least one link to a technology that could be used in the classroom.
The first link I’ll was used by my students last year who were creating a visual image for their alien guests by interpreting characteristics of a being, and creating the visual representation of that. This was part of a Google Earth slideshow project. To welcome fictional parents of foreign exchange students from another planet (so alien parents and students), students needed to dress up as the alien students, and think about what those students might look like. Did their faces have any features at all like ours (eyes, ears, nose, cheeks) or were they completely different? Putting a face to an alien being challenged them. In science we had been exploring Watson the computer entity that beat Jeopardy champions. This video (at around 1:36) was helpful in thinking about faces.

Another way to use technology to be artistic is google slides. Seemed unlikely to me at first, however this video was helpful in modeling to students how far they can take their artistic and creative skills up to and including simulating animation:

3. What are your "takeaways" from the article and videos?
Art is vital for humans in all walks of life, but especially students who are still learning and malleable. Art helps us practice self expression, an important part of communicating. Creating art is a way to learn by translating our learning into our own brain language, for lack of a better phrase. Art has a way of opening our minds. Rather than limiting our thinking, it invites extrapolation and elaboration of ideas and meaning messages.
