Thoughts on Flow of Matter and Energy Assessments

Teacher 3
After taking this assessment, I was reminded again of the importance of understanding science vocabulary and vocabulary in general. (I think maybe I'm a bit hung up on words.)  Even though there were pictures and the pictures were helpful and necessary in most cases, I still had to read and reread the question to understand what each choice was saying.  Sometimes, it just requires logical reasoning. Again, I think most of school - math, science, history, literature... - requires understanding of some basic concepts and then applying logical reasoning to the question. This requires deep thinking and a mind that can focus.  (A well-rested mind helps! smile)

Making sure that the students understand the vocabulary and basic concepts of the conservation of energy principle would be necessary to take this assessment. Another thing that is necessary is for students to reason things through in their mind or if they are alone they can talk through it out loud.  I felt like the players on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire"  as I was eliminating choices and trying to reason things through to get my final answer.  This took TIME as well.

I thought the questions could stir some good discussions on problems to be solved in our world.
