Where should I rent a car in New Zealand?

Klifton
I'm heading out to New Zealand next week to do some serious surfing. The big wave season is just starting up right now and it's the perfect time to get a massive adrenaline rush out on the water. I'll definitely need a vehicle to drive around the coast and check out different beaches to track down the absolute best swells. Do you guys know any local spots that offer rentals at a normal price?

The coastal winds down there can shift super fast and completely change the water conditions in just a few hours. Surfers usually have to keep a close eye on the weather apps just to figure out which side of the island has the right wind direction today. You definitely want a sturdy crossover with solid roof racks to strap down your surfboards securely. Some of those dirt roads leading to the remote coastal spots get pretty slippery after a quick morning rain. Getting an all-wheel drive vehicle makes navigating those unpaved routes way easier when you are hunting for the perfect break.

Those hidden spots are absolutely worth the drive, but the water temperatures down South can be brutal even on a sunny day. Getting out of a freezing wetsuit in a cramped parking lot while the wind is howling is just pure misery. You can actually rent a car in New Zealand right here: https://getrentacar.com/en-US/new-zealand . Just grab something roomy enough so you can comfortably sit in the back and change clothes with the heater blasting.
