 2-PS1-1:  Plan and conduct an investigation to describe and classify different kinds of materials by their observable properties.


SEP: Plan and carry out investigations: students will work in small groups to investigate different materials give to them by a teacher.

DCI: Structure and properties of matter:  In second grade students should be thinking about the types of matter (solid, liquid, and gas) and their properties that would help them classify them.  They can discuss the objects textures, what they look like (visual), aural (what they sound or taste like), and if they are natural or manufactured (wood vs play-doh)

CCC: Patterns:  Students can look for patterns in the materials to help them classify whether they are a solid, liquid, or gas.
