Class Dojo

Lindsay Weigel
I utilize Class Dojo when i substitute teach in classrooms that are using Dojo because I love to focus on rewarding and giving points to the students that are doing well and listening  and following directions rather than to constantly focus on the bad behavior that needs to be reported. I like that the students can keep track of their points and see how well they are doing in their classroom.

I also really enjoy Class Dojo - it has worked well for me to link "dojo points" to real-life rewards - if a student manages to accumulate a certain number of points, they can trade those points in for free reading time, or a missed assignment erased from their record, or 15 minutes of computer time, etc.  I have also used "class incentives" where a certain number of points will translate into extra recess time, or we even did a pizza party once, and students who had earned X number of points were invited to attend!  That was the best behavior I had ever seen, when students were trying to earn enough points to have the pizza party (and thanks to Little Caesar's $5 large pizzas, it only ended up costing me $25-30.  Well worth it.
