DC Digital Literacy: Creativity

I use the garage band app all the time with my elementary music students. They enjoy creating "building" and designing their own sounds to create patterns that are enjoyable and fun to dance and play along with. They often trade their creations with other groups and have fun mixing their sounds together. An assessment for this type of creativity is to see if they have followed certain guidelines I have provided, such as make a 4 bar pattern in 4/4 time. Put accents on counts 2 & 4, give your pattern dynamics and a tempo mark that make it what you want it to be. Use at least 2 different instruments in your pattern. This type of assignment gives the students a do-able task that can be evaluated in one class period.
