Digital Literacy

Erin Eckholt
After looking over the various categories I saw many apps that I was familiar with as well as a few new ones.  I often have used Edmodo when we participate in the Global Read Aloud.  It is a great tool to connect with other educators and classes.  I have not, yet, used it in my own classroom as a form of communication.
Padlet is a great tool for formative assessments.  I like to put a question up and have the students take a few moments to jot their thoughts down as they get settled in the room.
Animaker is a new one that I am excited to try out this year. I love to have a variety of ways that students can respond and share their learning.  This tool will be perfect, especially since it is free for a 2 minute  video.
Kahoot for critical thinking is a great tool. It is very engaging as long as it is not overused.  The competition adds a little excitement to whatever we are doing.  Kids have now begun creating their own as part of their presentations.
Google Drive is something I cannot live without.  This tool is everything in our school (district).  We use it constantly. Teaching the kids how to organize their files in a simple way is key to making the tool a success.
