Mindmeister is a mind mapping tool that helps students organize their thoughts, engage with team members and work on a project together.
There are more than a dozen different mind map models in the free trial and they offer limited access to the organizational skills. However, if the platform is offered free by the school, this could be a great tool for K-12 students to organize their thoughts and work with others.
The mind maps offer links from larger concepts to supporting areas of knowledge. The platform also allows for free floating ideas between links that could end up being part of the paper or project that that is being created.
Mindmeister also offers outline mode to help students get started, focus mode to shut out other parts of the plan to allow students double down on one segment of the plan. There is also real time collaboration and Microsoft Teams to support that collaboration.
I would ask groups of students to use this platform to create a presentation on a topic. Each student would be responsible for one area of the outline and would add material to the outline. The good thing is that teachers would be able to know who added what information and when, which would be a big help when grading time comes.
I think that this platform could help students and groups of students organize their thoughts and work together online to build a presentation that could be informative and expandable to fit the needs of the class.
