I wasn’t having luck with the tools in symbaloo, so I looked at chrome extensions. I’ve been wanting to do this since I found last term / winter term that students were pretty bad at collecting and editing images to use in the project we were doing.
I found two that I like a lot: “canvas - view edit google images” which can be found in the google chrome store for extensions.
“Canvas” (and this is NOT the classroom management platform) lets you download images directly from a google search. This is really handy because it could help students keep their images organized. It also lets one copy the url so linking to the image’s original site is possible.
Our computers at our school don’t have much by way of image editing capability, so another good online tool is “ipiccy”. Just google it.
This is neat because it has such a shallow learning curve. I haven’t found out everything it does yet, but it has a built-in collage maker, a photo editor that allows adding text, and a more sophisticated design function. I think kids could use this really easily. And if they make a free account, it’s easy to save images to their google drive etc.
We do a project where we make collages to go along with the ‘soundtrack of our lives’ and this would be great for that. It seems like the online editors I used last year added a lot of advertisements and things that really slowed the computers down.
