Preassessing students science knowledge

Amanda Buck
My pre-assessments usually include journal entries or sticky notes. I present students with a phenomena and they explain why they think it occurred or draw a picture or diagram of their understanding. Moving forward I would like to include more small group and whole group discussions. Students will give arguments based on evidence. Students will have the understanding that changing their thinking based on evidence is part of being a scientist.
