SeeSaw

Megan Bearbower
SeeSaw is similar to Class Dojo in that it can be used to communicate with parents.  It allows you to send newsletters or reminders to your class.  I liked SeeSaw a little better because as a teacher you can also use it to create online portfolios for your students and it has a library of activities that you can share with them.  I think it would be a great tool especially since our schools are moving in the direction of 1:1 computers.  It has a full screen canvas so students can interact with their learning using visuals and writing tools.  I think it would be great for teaching anything from fractions to colors.

I also began using SeeSaw this school year. I really like it for the same reason. I can take pictures of individual work and they parents can see where they are and I can assign specific items for them to work on in their portfolios.

I'm not familiar with SeeSaw but it sounds as if parental connections can be an integral aspect of it.  One of the greatest challenges I have had is maintaining parents and students "on the same page" throughout the school year.  SeeSaw, it seems, would provide a great format to connect the teacher, the parents and the students.

Sending news letters to the class and having communication with the parents is helpful to teachers and students.  SeeSaw is a tool which helps communication with students who need extra help and monitoring.

As a parent, my daughter's PE teacher has been using SeeSaw to share videos with our family about things they are doing in PE class. Sometimes it is just a generic video of her class, but other times it might be an assessment or a demonstration of a skill that they can work on at home or discuss with us as parents. this leads to great conversations that are more then "Fine", or "Nothing" but instead "Tell me about XXX that you were doing in PE today. It looked like you had to work very hard to accomplish XXX."

As a parent, I am familiar with Class Dojo and thought it a fun way to monitor my daughter's activity as school and have that home-school connection. SeeSaw sounds even more interactive and I love the way parents can know even more about what's happening at school. I am interested in learning more to possibly use within my own classroom!

I too have used SeeSaw and have found it very useful and effective communication with parents, as well as other teachers.  I also like REMIND for communication with parents and students, especially for early morning attendance.  I work in a high school where many students provide their own transportation.
