Google Docs and Google Drive are great tools for collaboration and communication. Twitter can be a very effective method of communication as well. Prezi has a lot of great features for presentations.
I would agree that twitter would be a good source for large group communications. It is nice that you are only allowed so many words so the message is to the point.
