We do a Radio Play unit in my classroom where the students read several radio plays, analyze examples of scripts, and ultimately write an original radio play of their own. This is done in cooperative groups as there are many parts to it. Student’s prepare a script, rehearse it and record it using the Audacity program. This is a great sound editing FREE software that allows the students to cut, copy, splice and/or mix sounds together. Although I am very intimidated by the program myself, the students dive right in and produce amazing end products.

It is nice to hear others are intimidated by certain programs. It is amazing to me how students will explore new programs and trouble shoot new sites.

I like the idea of the radio show.  I have heard of Audacity before and have tinkered with it occasionally, but it was just brought to my attention that some teachers use Audacity to give verbal feedback to students instead of doing all the written comments.  It may be something to think about especially in the English world.  Grading papers can take hours on end- maybe this would help lessen the time spent on commenting and feedback?  Just a thought!  Thanks for your post!
