One resource I would really enjoy using is Kidblog.  Typically when I assign writing, I am the only one who reads their work unless I have them read it aloud to the class.  If they were to publish their writing in a safe place online where other students from around the world could read their writing that would provide motivation to do their best work.

Weebly for education is another good blogging option for kids.  The teacher can provide websites for all students allowing great ownership of their own work within a secure online environment.

Wow, what a great idea.  Kids may concentrate on improving the quality of the work if they know it is going to be read by a large audience.  I would use it in a positive way so that they would be reviewed by peers and could respond to those posts as well.
