For the communication tools, I really liked the kidblogs, which is now fanschool. This was a site in which students could create their own blogs on certain topics, create an assignment. All of the work they do on fanschool then creates an overall portfolio. You can organize the portfolio into different topics. Students can not upload these until a teacher approves them to keep posts appropriate. Other students, teachers, and the child's parents can look and comment on this portfolio. I thought this would be a great way to show growth for students, and communicate with each other and parents.
For the collaborative tools, I really like Storybird Books. This website paired professional artwork with students' writing as a way to prompt them into creating standards based stories. They could collaborate on these stories with other students or do them alone. The finished product is an ebook. It was a really cool resource.
For creation tools, I loved the Minecraft Education. It paired the game that so many kids love and play all the time, with coding. They have to learn to code to create things, and go on a quest. In this world of children who spend so much of their time playing video games, this would be a way to really get kids excited about learning the new skill of coding.
For critical thinking tools, I thought junior Bad News was a humorous way to teach students how easily false information can spread. They have to work to become "credible" at spreading false news. They create a following based on lies and the decisions they make. It is a lighthearted approach to a real problem in our society. This shows kids how easily we can get false information, and why we have to look critically at our sources.
For organizational tools, I love google drive. It's a one stop shop for keeping everything organized, and getting to everything in the google suite. It keeps documents, sheets, sites, classrooms, mail, and so much more separated and saved. If students can work drive, they can find almost everything they may need for school.
