I frequently use You Tube and believe there are so many educational opportunities through the videos available.  I completely agree that the content must be monitored and reviewed prior to sharing the information with the students.
 Google Classroom is a wonderful site.  I will use this for all of my classes for posting announcements and assignments.  Looks similar to Edmodo but I think I will like this better.

I am going to use Google Drive for teacher to student and student to student communication.

We are a one-to-one school and we use Youtube to post our school newscasts.  You are right when you say you have to monitor when the students are watching Youtube.  We watch the newscasts in homeroom and invariably the students find other "informational" sites that are in no way related to the newscast.  That being said, I am still a fan of Youtube's  benefit in the classroom.
