Beside our email I had never used much of the computer offerings in my teaching. For my own personal use I learned about Evernote @ one of our school/tech workshops. Eventually I started using Edmodo for communication with students. Students who are absent can check their accounts to see what we are doing while absent and see if any changes or updates have been made. Kahoot has been the favorite for the kids. They enjoy taking quizes and tests this way. Also I have used for a fun study guide. We also use this for the CNN news we watch.
