YouTube

Christopher Bird
As a music teacher (6-8 grade band), youtube is one of the best resources out there for students to explore for a variety of reasons.  First, they can observe professional players performing on the same instruments that they play at a high level.  Second, they can observe body movements an how they go with the flow of the music.  Third, they can see how these great players get the most out of whatever music they are performing by listening and being moved by the music.  Fourth, there are many high quality tutorials on youtube for students to explore as well.  Some youtube videos have professional teachers explaining in depth aspects of playing band instruments (i.e. flute trills, trombone legato, saxophone vibrato, breathing techniques, sound production, listening and adjusting).

When students observe these musicians performing on youtube, they often get inspired to practice more often and learn new techniques on their respective instruments.
