Class Dojo

Beth Hall
I used this app for many years it my classroom.  What I liked about it was that you are able to set some positive things you are looking for in student behavior.  You then put in your class list and you are able to easily catch kids doing something positive and give them points.  The class is able to be displayed on the screen in your classroom so students can see how many points they have and when they are awarded points.  You can decide how many individual points they need to get a reward or how many class points need to be awarded for a class incentive.  It also has capabilities to send parents updates on about how students are doing.  It also allows parents to check how many points their kids have at any time.

Have you had any negative feedback from parents or administration whose kids haven't performed so well?

I haven't but as a parent I have noticed with my kids that they would receive a majority of their positive points right before the incentive....so if they hadn't received enough points to earn the Friday afternoon incentive through out the week they would receive lots of points Friday morning.  We teachers are only human LOL.  I have also noticed with my own classroom that the kids who misbehaved the most before and showed such improvement when using the points system earned way more points than the always well behaved kids because I caught them more often.  I did adjust when using it more to make sure the well behaved kids received points as well.

Over all I've seen good things come from class dojo.  There has been a few times when protocol should have been followed more closely.  Not the fault of a good app.

Dojo sounds great, if used properly. It needs to be limited to be used only at certain times of the day and not through out the whole day.  It could take away from instructional time. Not the fault of Dojo.
