DC Digital Literacy: Share Resource

Class Dojo is a tool that I plan to use in the classroom. I like that tool uses a point system to help the students track their behavior and participation in the classroom. It is something that can be reflected on daily and allow the student to make adjustments throughout the day when needed. I also like that parents can see updates throughout the day to have meaningful discussions with their child about their behavior in school. The students can even help to set the rewards for the benchmarks we decide upon giving them more of an incentive.

Katie, Is Dojo something you would use with your entire class or with individual students who may be exhibiting non-compliant behavior?  Would this be a part of a Functional Behavior Plan?  Do your students all have access to IPads throughout the day?  It sounds like a great self monitoring program.  Will check into it.

I have seen this used in several schools in area and it works well.  The students respond enthusiastically and keep their "dojo points" top of mind.  It is also easy for substitute teachers to use in a teacher's absence.  I think you'll be happy with your results!

Katie I've seen Dojo before at the elementary level and I agree the parents really appreciated seeing that immediate feedback it could provide.  I like the idea of using it as a behavior tracking tool.  I'm going to explore it a bit more.

I have had a lot of teachers that I've recruited say that they really liked Class Dojo, especially as we are going to put a house system into play.  I looked into it quite a bit, and I can definitely see the appeal for younger students.  Unfortunately, I haven't really seen a comparable tool for working with older kids (our school is only MS and HS,) so I don't know if it's worth us bringing it in.  Still, I have definitely heard a lot of positive things.
