DC Digital Literacy

Brian D Christensen
I have used a number of these resources, but one that works very well is Remind. We use this as a messaging/reminder tool for our speech team, and we encourage parents and student participants to log on to be a part of the system.

This can be a great tool for simply reminding about practices, assignments, group ideas, times for performing, and more.

Students seem to love to use Prezi. It allows students who do not have expensive presentation software on their computers to create presentations that often are more engaging with the audience than standard PowerPoints. Frankly, as an instructor, I have found myself more engaged with a Prezi than any other type of student presentation. Students also seem proud of their completed work!

Skype is a great communication tool, too. There are tons of possibilities, and Skype can be a way for an absent student to still be engaged in class and/or group discussions.

Remind is used by a few of our elementary teachers.  They have found that parents will respond to a message from Remind before they will respond to an email or text message during school hours.
