Little Bird Tales

Valerie VanHolland
I teach young kids (first grade), so I was looking for a resource that would be easy to use, engaging, and would add something to couldn't simply be done through an art project or with paper and pencil. The resource I would like to share is called Little Bird Tales. It allows students to make stories using both drawn images and photos they have taken or saved. Then, they can record their voice telling the story before publishing it. I could see this used with my students in many ways. It would be a fun way to publish any story, but it could also add a lot to other units. I could see small groups making a teaching book about a particular animal or place. It could be a fun final project in our neighborhoods unit, having small groups make a book about the school's neighborhood after taking pictures on a walk. It seems pretty user friendly, and I think it would inspire a lot of excitement and creativity in my students.

I think this would even be fun for high school kids in a creative writing project. They could use the "little kid book" approach to create a story that uses all elements of the plot

This is a fun way to have them become the creators of the story as well as take ownership in the project. This has many possibilities for different projects.
