I am really excited to use Kahoot It.  I think this is a fun and engaging way to do a quick assessment to see how many in the class are able to correctly answer questions over whatever current content we've covered that day or the day before.  I can use the data to determine if the majority of the class is ready to move on or not.  I think that the competitive nature of the "quiz" is fun, and yet they can identify themselves by any "nickname" they want and it protects their identity among friends, keeping it feeling safe to miss a question.

I'm not familiar with Kahoot It and will go back and give it a look.  Our Spanish teacher swears by it and we're trying to get into the formative assessing mode more often online.  All for the reasons you listed have been discussed in our PLTs.

I poked around on this site and it is a neat tool.  I couldn't do much, but I imagine I need an account to go farther.

I would like to try Kahoot! with my second graders. I think they would really enjoy the game format. I could see Kahoot! being used as a pre-assessment and/or formative assessment tool in many different content areas.

Rachel, I liked your observation about students being able to identify themselves by any "nickname" they want, thereby protecting their identity among friends and making it feel safe to miss a question. I think that is especially important for older students.

I have used Kahoot when I was a long term sub in a middle school and they LOVE it! They can get very competitive though. You can create the quiz to fit your needs and it is very user friendly. I am planning on trying it out with my first graders this year. I think they would even be able to try it out as long as I read it to them as they go. We might also have to do a little tutorial on how things work. The older students pick up on how it works very quickly though.
